Events
In addition to supporting local cell groups around Leeds, LYCN helps to facilitate a number of city wide events for young people from across Leeds. There are two main types of events we help to organise as well as residential's for the various cell groups. Please see below for some brief information.
celebrations
A celebration is a gathering focused on worship and teaching with fun games, activities and a gospel message from a local youth worker or speaker. We usually have a Celebration once a term occasionally as part of a Demonstrate Day or on it's own. These events a planned and put on with the help of young people from across the city with vibrant live worship and free space to gather and meet other Christian young people from across the city. These events are help in various churches and locations and we aim to visit as many parts of the city with one of these gatherings as possible.
demonstrate Days
Demonstrate Days are about supporting young people to get involved in mission here in their own city. The Demonstrate Days like the celebrations happen in various different parts of the city. We work with local church and organisation to plan a day of engagement with a specific community with a hope to blessing and reaching a part of the city with God's Love. traditionally we have done this is various ways with street clean ups, free gardening teams for local residents, community cafe' and fun days. We love to see young people engaging with mission and believe its hugely important for mission to be a key part of their growth and development. A Demonstrate day usually ends with a "Celebrations" event, giving thanks to God for the community in which we have being working.
Residential's
Each year we help to organise 2 residential weekends in February. These are an opportunity for the young people to take some time out to have fun, reflect on their faith and build friendships. The three day residential's are jam packed with outdoor activities, worship, teaching and plenty of group time. The weekends are always a great success and each year grow from strength to strength.
Summer mission
During the summer we are usually involved in activity of some kind whether that be taking a group to Soul Survivor or helping facilitate mission here in Leeds. Over recent years we have been part of a number of summer mission projects here in Leeds gathering over 70 young people to spend a week sleeping on church floors and engaging in mission across the city. This last summer we were involved in the Hope '11 project which was a powerful gathering of young people from a huge range of backgrounds to get stuck into mission projects in 5 areas of Leeds.
